6th International İstanbul Opera Festival by the State Opera and Ballet General Directorate begins on
June 8 2015!
6th International İstanbul Opera Festival organised by the General Directorate of State Opera and Ballet will begin with W. A. Mozart’s famous “Die Entführung aus dem Serail”. It will be staged on 8-9 June 2015, Monday and Tuesday nights by İstanbul State Opera and Ballet at the İstanbul Archaeological Museum Garden. The opera composed by Mozart with inspiration from the rhythms of the Ottoman military band is one of the finest examples of the Turquerie current that emerged in Western Europe in the 16th century. The opera is directed by Yekta Kara.
“Yusuf ile Züleyha” will be present at the festival as the second production by İstanbul State Opera and Ballet. The opera by Okan Demiriş with a libretto by Nezihe Araz will be staged on 11-12 June 2015, Thursday and Friday nights at Kadıköy Süreyya Opera Stage. The director is N. Aytaç Manizade.
The third opera in the 6th International İstanbul Opera Festival schedule will be “Romeo and Juliet” by Charles Gounod. This opera that will be staged by Mersin State Opera and Ballet under Kenan Korbek’s direction on 13 June 2015, Saturday night at the Haliç Congress Centre.
The festival will end with the Gala Concert on 18 June 2015, Thursday night. İstanbul State Opera and Ballet Orchestra conducted by renowned conductor Raoul GRÜNEIS will accompany tenors Murat KARAHAN, Ünüşan KULOĞLU, soprano Catherine FOSTER, and mezzosoprano Michelle BREEDT.
